About me

Ruth's background, qualifications and philosophy.
Ruth is an innovator with a passion for neurodiversity. She consistently pushes the boundaries of knowledge exploration and creation, evident in her groundbreaking MA and PhD work. Her publications include traditional journal articles, art exhibitions, and a unique visual work. Ruth has made multiple appearances on Sonia Gray’s podcast, “No Such Thing as Normal,” and has been invited to teach staff about neurodiversity. Central to her efforts is a focus on empowerment, which resonates throughout all her work.
With nine years of experience lecturing at Massey University, Ruth has supported students in navigating university life and engaged with staff to enhance discussions on neurodivergence within the institution. Her ongoing mission is to create positive change for neurodivergent individuals.
Ruth’s work is situated within a neurodiverse paradigm, meaning she examines the world through a neurodiverse lens. She also employs extended mind theory, which posits that thinking involves not just the brain, but encompasses the entire body and environment.

I lectured alongside Ruth in Social Anthropology at Massey for over six years, and it is with confidence that I can report an absolute trust her ability to guide, support and understand the experiences of ND students. Ruth is 100% committed to helping ND excavate their potential in university settings. Through years of research and experience she has developed the experience necessary to assist and adapt her approach to individual ND learner needs. Students love Ruth, her compassion, her helpfulness, and her ability to listen and gauge students' needs. It is therefore with pleasure and excitement that I endorse Ruth's much needed Neurodiversity@University initiative wholeheartedly.

Ruth is passionate in supporting neurodivergent learners, and ensuring they are not disadvantaged. I have seen her advocate for the best outcomes for our students to ensure their study success. Ruth can tune in to what a learner needs. Our students and I are very appreciative for the study skill workshops and resources generously provided by Ruth. These workshops and resources have been tailored to the learning of neurodivergent students. Many students had remarked that they really enjoyed Ruth's workshops and would love to attend more in the future. My colleagues and I are still recommending students to have a look at Ruth's resources to build up the strategies in their study toolkit. I am very excited to see that Ruth's many years of experiences and research have culminated into the offerings for Neurodiversity@University. I hope that more learners can benefit from Ruth's courses!
